Hyde Park Bar & Grill Westgate

After years of sitting abandoned on the corner of Westgate and 290, the former Grandy’s nearly became a Landmark. Although the best thing for the building was to tear it down and start over, Hyde Park founder, Bick Brown, was adamant about not coming into a new area and tearing down buildings. The space was gutted and very little remained of the structure except a slab, a few exterior walls, and sections of the roof structure. Due to the height constraints of the structure, we faced many obstacles in hiding the mechanicals as well as providing support for the new equipment. Because the utilities did not meet the capacity for the new restaurant, a new electrical service was built and the water line increased.

The finish out has a lot of the character of the original HPG with a few modern touches. The wood ceilings are exposed and painted, dining areas are divided by custom wood slat walls topped with planters and the room is surrounded by windows. Noise is muffled by the colorful carpet and cushy built in booths. The large copper bar is held up by a linear custom wood slat wall mirroring those of the dining room. The kitchen is equipped with not only state-of-the-art equipment, it has all the latest finishes, PVC flooring, stainless and FRP walls, high ceilings, thus making this space not only functional but more importantly “cleanable.”
