BESS
500 West 6th Street

BessOriginally contracted to only provide a shell and kitchen space, the project developed into the finish out of one of Austin’s most desired dining spots. Set in the basement of The Stafford Arms building, BESS is intimate, charming and warm. Behind the scenes we faced many challenges in constructing the mechanics within minimal ceiling space with occupied offices above. Every inch of available vertical and horizontal space is fitted with a conduit, a vent or a duct.

As you walk down the entry steps you are faced with large wood doors topped with custom etched glass. Once in the space you immediately experience the warmth: a pecan bar face with hand-carved oval panels topped with an imported, French pewter bar top and a skylight above allowing just enough natural light to capture the details of the original structure. The finishes are a combination of sealed concrete enhancing the original slab, imported tile recessed flush with the concrete, exposed wood ceilings accented by tin, sleek, sexy black and pecan woodwork, brick columns encased in wood and upholstered panels. Intimate dining tables are tucked in masonry nooks lined with leather upholstery and topped with crystal chandeliers.

The roof deck is accented with “twinkle” lights and surrounded by masonry and metal handrails, floor pavers surround the skylight peering into the space below and the retractable awnings offer an intimate setting. This is truly I sight you need to see.
